Vanderbilt University Hospital cares for adult and geriatric patients during the entire care continuum. The Float Pool assists with staffing many areas including over 35 different areas within VUH. The Float Pool provides a crucial service for our customers, not only to ensure safe quality patient care, but provides support for our unit colleagues as well. You will be offered opportunities to expand your knowledge and maintain an expansive skill set which will enable to you to become a resource to others.
The Student Nurse Program provides an option for nursing students interested in working at Vanderbilt University Medical Center during summer 2020. We have identified opportunities to work as Care Partners (non-licensed care team members) through the Adult Float Pool.
Our goal is to provide an opportunity for nursing students to have summer employment in a role that will provide them clinical exposure, an opportunity to hone technical skills, and experience being part of the healthcare team providing care to patients at VUMC.
Requirements to participate:
Student in good standing in a CCNE/ACEN accredited bachelor's degree nursing program.
Must have completed fundamentals course plus at least one hospital based clinical rotation.
Current BLS certification
If selected, candidates will be hired into term Care Partner positions in the float pools. After orientation, they will function in a Care Partner (non-licensed) role.
Work commitment is full time (36 hours/week) and may be 7AM -7PM or 7PM-7AM; weekdays and weekends.
Candidates will be required to float to various floors within the Vanderbilt Adult Hospital
Start date options: May 18, 2020 or June 1, 2020 ( There is an option to start sooner)
Orientation: classroom orientation will be followed by clinical orientation with a float pool Care Partner preceptor
Care Partners will have an accelerated orientation in the Adult Acute Medicine Units, Adult Acute Surgery (post-op care) units, and the Cardiology or Oncology Units
Expectation is to work at least through August 7, 2020. There is a potential opportunity to continue working PRN over breaks or vacations from school
Any requested time off during the course of the summer program is unpaid
