What is an apprenticeship?
A registered apprenticeship is an employer-driven model that combines on-the-job training with job-related instruction, which progressively increases an apprentices skill level and wages. An apprenticeship often serves as entry to a long-lasting and rewarding career, provides you with marketable skills and knowledge, and allows you to continue to earn a good wage while continuing to learn skills within your health care career. Apprentices sign an agreement that outlines the requirements including length of time you will be in training and hours of related educational training.
The apprenticeship requires the individual to work at a .6 FTE (48 hours per two-week pay period) at a Fairview clinic and be accepted into the Medical Assisting program (full time) at Rasmussen College (the Eagan campus), our education partner for this program. Apprentices must maintain passing grades and must intend to continue employment at Fairview Health Services. Starting wage is $15.50 an hour and as apprentices progress in their program they will receive quarterly increases ending in $17.00 an hour wage in the fourth quarter.
