This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be March 15, 2021. Applicants will be referred on an 'as needed' basis thereafter. This Nursing Assistant position is located on the Acute Psychiatry Unit at VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System in Leeds, MA. Nursing Assistants perform a range of nursing care activities while assigned to the unit. In addition to performing activities of daily living and documentation, the Nursing Assistant demonstrates an understanding of each member of the interdisciplinary team's role and appropriately communicates with members to promote positive outcomes. Work consists of personal care duties, treatments, documentation, re-motivation therapy, and patient teaching. Recurring duties are carried out independently. Veterans age 18 through the geriatric years are served with all diagnoses found in late adolescence, early mid-life and late adulthood. Some duties include but are not limited to: Escorting patients/residents safely both on and off station. Is able to follow standard precautions and other infection control protocols as needed. Demonstrates knowledge of basic health care provider skills. Provides 1:1 or Safety Sitter nursing care to patients/residents who may require restraints or special observation. Understands patient's/resident's rights and responsibilities. Maintains a safe, secure environment for patients/residents staff, significant others, and visitors as addressed in the VAMC Safety Manual. Provides comprehensive physical care to patients/residents. motivating patients/residents toward optimal level of functioning. Work Schedule: Multiple shifts may be available: Days: 7:30am - 4:00pm; Evenings: 3:30pm - 12:00am; Nights: 12:00am - 8:00am. May be scheduled for weekends and holidays.
