The Nursing assistant/transporter performs a variety of basic patient care support duties under the supervision of the Nurse Manager. Duties include: Nursing assistant/transporter assists with transporting the Veterans to various Inpatient and Outpatient areas within the hospital including Long Term Care, Emergency Department, Spinal Cord Injury Unit and PACU. Nursing assistant/transporter assists the Registered Nurse with transporting the patient from MICU, PCU, SICU, Emergency Room and Telemetry areas. Collecting specimens from all inpatient, outpatient and specialty areas delivering specimens to the labs; Nursing Assistant/Transporter will collect blood slips from varies units, take it to the Blood Bank at the Main Lab and collect the blood products returning them to the requesting unit. Nursing Assistant/Transporter will transport Veterans in wheelchairs, stretchers, in beds and assist ambulatory patients to varies clinics, wards, diagnostic areas, treatment areas and to the parking lot. Dispatching duties which requires the staff to answer multiple phone lines, writing pertient information and assigning the request to the Escort Transporters. Locating equipment which is used daily to transport the veteran to include, stretchers and wheelchairs bringing them back to the Escort area; Maintaining environmental safety by organizing the Escort areas and hallways to keep them clutter-free. Nursing assistant/transporter assists in getting the equipment ready for use by cleaning the wheelchairs/stretchers with disinfectant solution and preparing the equipment to be used again. OR suits ready for the next day by restocking, organizing equipment, and making surgical beds. Nursing assistant assists nursing service personnel with a variety of patient care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of veterans. The incumbent may float to other areas within the facility as needed for patient care within their scope of practice. Nursing assistant/transporter must comply with infection control policies/procedures. Nursing assistant/transporter must comply with HIPAA and information security policies/procedures. Nursing assistant/transporter must report all incidents and/or accidents to the supervisor immediately. Work Schedule: Primarily Monday-Friday, Various Day Shifts with mandatory weekend & holiday rotations.
