The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Nursing Assistant for the Warren VA Clinic. The Nursing Assistant will function in Community Outpatient Service. "All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. " The Nursing Assistant will perform a range of patient care activities related to medical, psychiatric, and specialty services within the Northeast Ohio VA Healthcare System/Community Based Outpatient (CBOC) clinics. The primary purpose is to provide supportive services in the clinical setting to laboratory and nursing related services. The patient care activities includes assisting nursing and medical personnel in the care and treatment of patients, providing a safe and comfortable environment for the patient, monitoring and recording vital signs, measuring and recording height and weight, laboratory blood draws/sample collection, transporting patients, cleaning equipment, monitoring and documenting that patient's condition, using appropriate infection control measures, providing excellence in customer satisfaction using the principles of relationship based care, and assistance with all other aspects of nursing care as assigned by the registered nurse. Other following duties make include but are not limited to: Performs a wide variety of nursing care duties as assigned by the registered nurse aimed at increasing the overall care of patients. Participates in communication "huddles" with the RN/LPN to receive information and direction of delegated duties. Daily phone calls to patients for pre-appointment reminders. Completing documentation in CPRS: clinical reminders, personalized health plans, vaccine documentation, review of current complaint and symptoms, and medication reconciliation. Perform phlebotomy procedures following a sequence of steps approved for sample collection: proper. Assists medical and nursing personnel in the care or treatment of patient illness and nursing care. Prepares, ambulates, transports and positions patient using appropriate equipment. Applies infection control measures appropriately in delivering patient care. Reports observations and changes of the condition of the patient to the registered nurse. Provides a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff and others. Assists with flow processes and procedures. Assists the RN/LPN to prepare patients for transport to appointments, other departments, emergency room, or other unit transfer. Uses effective communication skills with individuals and groups to achieve desired patient outcomes. Uses and directs others to use equipment safely and appropriately. Educates the patient and family member on specific health information based on the patient's condition. Adheres to ethical principles and nursing standards in delivering care.
