The Observation Unit at full staffing will presently have 32 nurses, 8 techs and 2 HUCs. We also have 4 per-diem nurses. We admit patients from the ED that can possibly be discharged within 30 hours, ED holds waiting for placement on the floor, surgical patients for overnight observation and readmissions. Patient’s to the unit are admitted by CAHP. Because of the fast turnover of our patients it isn’t the ideal unit for new graduate nurses, hence we do not hire GNs to the Observation Unit.
