Provides patient nursing care through physical and mental assessments, laboratory testing, treatment plans and therapeutic treatments. Knowledgeable of a wide range of disorders; cognitive, emotional, developmental, social and behavioral. Performs crisis intervention. Communicates with physicians, nurse managers, co-workers and referents as appropriate about changes in patient's clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomology. Able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Participates in the department's performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides care appropriate to condition and age of patient including, adult and the geriatric population.
Ability to perform nursing and psychosocial assessments on all patients and reassessments as per unit care area statement. This includes adolescent, adult, geriatric and the general patient population.
Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
Performs thorough patient psychiatric interviews.
Continuously observes patient's behavior, mental status and activities.
Formulates and implements and revises patient multidisciplinary treatment plans as indicated by patient assessment and response to treatment; family is included when appropriate.
Ability to perform, interpret and take appropriate action on waived testing (point of care testing) per Clinical Laboratory standards.
Demonstrates ability to perform unit specific competencies to include provision of clinical services ( see skills checklist)
Knowledgeable of medications, including psychotropic drugs, and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and their clinical condition.
Follows the five (5) medication rights.
Treats patients and families with professionalism, respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.
Demonstrates the ability to perform crisis intervention and triage.
Provides psychotherapeutic treatments and education to patients and families including individual psychotherapy, group therapy, and family therapy.
Documentation meets current standards and policies.
Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary. Participates in patient care conferences.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to the Nurse Supervisor, Manager, co-workers and physicians.
Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Provides education to the patient and family concerning treatment plans, compliance with the treatment plans, medications and their side effects, and discharge planning..
Functions as a patient and family advocate.
Orients new staff members and volunteers.
Assists with quality improvement activities conducted in the department.
Manages and operates equipment safely.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.
Adheres to dress code.
Completes annual educational requirements.
Maintains regulatory requirements.
Wears identification while on duty.
Maintains confidentiality at all times.
Attends department staff meetings as required within the department.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards

Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines.
Current MTstate Registered Nurse Licensure.
Current BCLS certification.
Prefer minimum of one (1) year experience in a behavioral healthcare setting.
