Strategic Services Associate
REPORTS TO: Chief of Staff, Office of the Chief Nurse Executive
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Chief Nurse Executive, DUHS
PURPOSE: To provide support in the implementation of large-scale care delivery initiatives across Duke Health to ensure the fulfillment of operational and quality improvement objectives. Primary duties will include project management activities, project planning, and creation of final business intelligence tools to aid executive decision-making. Current portfolio of projects to be managed include DUHS strategic plan, recognition and support programs, determining and tracking ROI of tuition programs, and broad involvement department-wide initiatives.
Job Duties:
This position carries significant responsibilities for the support functions needed to ensure that Duke Health successfully plans and executes activities aimed at improving the entity/system performance in operations and/or clinical quality.
Project Management / Project Planning
- In collaboration with COS, develop project plans identifying decision points, deliverables, timelines, and stakeholders for the implementation of quality initiatives.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of strategies for enhancing performance
- Utilize performance improvement techniques and methodologies. Apply DMAIC framework on portfolio of projects ranging from Green to Black Belt level.
- Coordinate and participate in meetings with stakeholders to move projects/initiatives forward.
- Maintain updated project plans. Proactively identify changes in work scope and ensure appropriate planning measures are taken with internal and external clients to reassess, renegotiate and amend scope of work responsibilities, proposals, contracts, and budgets.
- Update and communicate reports evaluating project progress/performance.
- Implement standard project management processes, tools and methodology by: Contributing to the maintenance of standard processes, and standard project templates, tools and guidelines to support the application of the standard project management methodology. Consistently applying standard project management methodology, processes, and tools to projects manages.
Data Analysis and Presentation
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data to support the planning and performance monitoring of projects.
- Identify opportunities for improved performance. Analyze data to identify adverse trends and/or undesirable performance. Evaluate effectiveness of improvement strategy through sustained monitoring of performance.
- Visually represent data analysis and interpretation through the use of Excel graphics, PowerPoint presentations, and Tableau.
- Develop presentations for project report-outs to executive leadership.
- Keep manager apprised of progress and status of all projects. Consistently meet deliverable deadlines.
Ad-Hoc
- Receive and track project requests; review and clarify with clients, as needed.
- Support organization's efforts to maintain compliance with regulations and accreditation standards. Monitor compliance through both formal and informal processes. Recognize opportunities for improving compliance; design and implement strategies for enhancing compliance.
- Effectively analyze and interpret the data/information to garner key insights and present the information in a clear, concise, and polished manner.
- Appropriately manage repository of historical requests, data pulls, deliverables, and project outcomes.
- Initiate, establish, and maintain business relationships with all key stakeholders of the project whether internal or external to the organization.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience: Working knowledge of Microsoft business package to include PowerPoint, Access, Word, and Excel. Smarthsheet, Tableau and SQL preferred, but not required.
Working knowledge of PC and/or web-based software programs for database support and management. Experience drafting written materials for executive leadership and/or regulatory stakeholders.
Three years of project management experience in a health system.
Six Sigma or PMP certification strongly preferred.
Work requires the ability to plan and administer programs and direct program activities within a specific functional area, generally acquired through four years of related experience.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
Bachelor's degree in a business or health-related field is required.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years work experience, including 3 years of experience with significant responsibility for performance/ process improvement. Experience leading work teams required.
Experience can be supplemented with Master's degree with a Masters being equivalent to two years of experience.
